This article from NY Times is called "Bits of Mystery DNA, Far From ‘Junk,’ Play Crucial Role". It discusses that "DNA junk" (or better known as "introns") has turned out to play critical roles in controlling how cells, organs and other tissues behave. The discovery is a major medical and scientific breakthrough and has enormous implications for human health because many complex diseases appear to be caused by tiny changes in hundreds of gene switches. For example DNA "junk" may actually have a major role behind Autism.
